La serie Cometa

Italian Version

Together with the ARIS-label, the COMETA-lanel is in fact the only other label about which I know simply nothing! Where did it come from, where did it vanish for which reasons, who founded and who owned it, who decided what to release and what not, which back-catalogue did they release, qestions over questions. The only rumour I´ve ever heard is that it was founded and run by an Italian Ennio Morricone-society or collectors club, but again this is still doubtful (and of course unconfirmed), since it released quite a couple of non-Morricone scores (although the majority of their releases are Morricone-scores). So to sum up: Although I own all COMETA-releases, I do not know anything about the label!

Another triva information not readily available regards the release dates of the individual issues, since no release date are mentioned anywhere on the cover. So in fact all I can describe, in addition to presenting the individual covers (which artwork is mediocre at best) on this site, are their production values, which indicate release dates around the ending of the 70ies and maybe the beginning of the 80ies: Normally strong not laminated cardboard covers protecting rather thin vinyl of above average but less than perfect pressing quality. Nice items, nevertheless, however not up to the usual Italian top production values (but not everybody can be on the top!).

As far as distribution is concerned, these LPs are said to have been distributed to members of this rumour-club, but that is - if at all - only true for those LPs, which do feature a hand-written item-number on the back side, indicating individual items as beeing number so-and-so from a 500 copies print run, but ... Cometa released many more than just 500 copies! As far as I have been told, they made more than 1000 copies, the numbered ones going to individual members, the not numbered ones (which still have the wrong print-run info printed on the back cover), were sold through speciality outlets and leading record stores as well as mail-order dealers.

Well, that´s about all info/rumours I´ve been able to assmble and any clarification would be highly appreciated!

If you have any questions, that have been left unanswered (and I am sure there are mayn this time ...), please do not hesitate to drop me a line e-mail! I try to answer all questions as fast as possible, plan to collect them (also the unanswerable ones!) and want to put them into a FAQ-section (which is planned for 2003!). The same goes of course, if you have any info or items for sale or trade available!!

AVAILABLE items (visually graded: cover/record; play-graded upon request): Sorry, no spare copies available right now!
